On 11 April 1917 he was appointed a wing commander with the acting rank of lieutenant-colonel. 13. On 1 October he was appointed a flight commander, and promoted to the acting rank of captain. 14. When he was mentioned in despatches in June 1944, he held the acting rank of squadron leader. 15. Chadderton rose from non-commissioned rank to officer commanding an infantry company with the acting rank of Major. 16. By the end of the war he held the acting rank of air vice marshal and had been knighted. 17. Soon after returning to Australia, Wynter became director of Military Training, with the acting rank of colonel. 18. He was appointed flight commander of " A " Flight on 3 October with the acting rank of captain. 19. Gubbins, with the acting rank of Colonel, was the senior officer in the force and assumed command. 20. In June 1944, Dundas was promoted to the acting rank of group captain at the age of only 23.
