11. Abundant discoveries of low technology iron slag bear witness to the long tradition of iron production in the area. 12. Near to the Alfoldean station the metalling was constructed from iron slag in a solid 30 cm thick mass. 13. Within the area pieces of metalworking as nails, knives or tools and more than 50k of iron slag were found. 14. There is evidence of bronze and iron smelting : furnaces, ore roasting pits and 200kg of iron slag were found. 15.
