11. The continued existence of courts baron and introduction of kirk sessions helped consolidate the power of local lairds. 12. Kirk sessions also had an administrative burden in the system of poor relief and a major role in education.13. Time spent in the bridle was normally allocated by the kirk session , in Scotland, or a local magistrate. 14. By the 17th century, Bonaly appears to have been thriving and is mentioned frequently in the Kirk Session records. 15. The members of the congregation, including the ruling elders, are under the spiritual oversight of the Kirk Session . 16. Failing to receive adequate support, however, the school was ultimately sold to the kirk session of New Greyfriars. 17. One consequence was that the Kirk Session of Liff and Benvie was responsible for the poor of that populous industrial area. 18.
