11. Eventually, Alexander Graham Bell became a powerful advocate of visible speech and oralism in the United States. 12. Oralism is sometimes called the German method, and manualism the French method in reference to those times.13. Up to the 1950s, the predominant method in deaf education was oralism acquiring oral language comprehension and production. 14. All signing was banned in the classroom because the sole objective of Oralism was to teach the students to speak and understand Icelandic. 15. Despite France's tradition of sign language, oralism was the dominant mode of communication among the deaf when she was growing up. 16. Since then, after a period of forced oralism , LSQ has become a strong language amongst Deaf communities within Quebec and across Canada. 17.
