On the head, a dark postocular stripe is present that frequently fuses with the first lateral body blotch. 13. The head includes a dark and clearly defined postocular stripe that is sharply bordered above and below by yellow or white. 15. An extension behind the eye called postocular temporum and its surrounding ridge called supraocular carina, found in other beetles, are absent. 16. Over 90 % of all specimens have the usual dark dorsal pattern, but a few are uniform green and have no postocular stripes. 17. In " C . atrox ", the crown is covered in small scales, and the light postocular stripe intersects the mouth. 18. In addition to the dorsal stripes, a well-defined postocular stripe and one to two thick black stripes around the neck are often present. 19. Eastern populations have a broad, dark, postocular stripe, bordered with pale pigment above and below, that is faint or absent in western populations. 20. When present, each horn consists of a single long, spine-like scale that can be folded back into an indentation in the postocular scale.
