Outside of ice ages, oxisols have generally been the dominant soil order in the paleopedological record. 15. The character of the soil orders reflects the arid, strongly-weathered nature of the Australian continent. 16. Four soil orders are found in the upstream river basin viz . ultisols, alfisols, inceptisols and entisols. 17.
