11. An incompatible blood transfusion causes a transfusion reaction , which is mediated by the humoral immune response. 12. Anti-N is not considered to cause transfusion reactions . 13. Raddon has been associated with severe transfusion reactions . 14. A Duffy negative blood recipient may have a transfusion reaction if the donor is Duffy positive. 15. Both anti-S and anti-s have been implicated in transfusion reactions and haemolytic disease of the newborn. 16. Though present in the fetus, it is seldom the cause of erythroblastosis fetalis or of transfusion reactions . 17. The lower volume of plasma also reduces the chances of an adverse transfusion reaction to plasma proteins. 18. Not all antibodies are clinically significant ( i . e . cause transfusion reactions , HDN, etc . ). 19. Such antibodies can cause problems in subsequent transfusions, both febrile transfusion reactions and poor response to platelet transfusions. 20. It is thought that this lifesaving measure is of more benefit than any risk of an antibody-mediated transfusion reaction .
