11. The morphology and evolution of the eolian dunes is controlled by an abundance of xerophytic and halophytic plants. 12. The vegetation consists primarily of dwarf ( less than 1 m high ) xerophytic shrubs with some grasses. 13. A few species of xerophytic herbs and some ephemeral herbs are found in this semi-arid tract. 14. Frequently xerophytic deciduous perennials with many geophytes and succulent subshrubs, less frequently woody evergreen shrubs or annual herbs. 15. Owing to very poor water holding capacity of the soil, these plants are provided with special xerophytic adaptations. 16. The mesophytic Silver Fir is restricted to humid northern sides whereas the xerophytic Bosnian pine prefers south facing slopes. 17. It is a xerophytic shrub and it has been used as a grafting stock for domesticated almonds to provide drought resistance.
