The zygomatic arches ( cheekbones ) are slender. 14. Their zygomatic arches form elongations of the maxillae. 15. The upper molars extend onto the zygomatic arch and are considerably smaller than their neighbouring premolars. 16. The masseter muscle does attach directly behind the zygomatic arch in a manner very different from sciuromorphs. 17. The circumocular patch does not extend below the zygomatic arch , and the stripe between its eyes is wide. 18. The zygomatic arch is expanded laterally and dorsally and is used as a resonating chamber-a unique feature among mammals. 19. Unlike most other mammals, shrews lack zygomatic bones ( also called the jugals ), so have incomplete zygomatic arches . 20. The zygomatic arches are massive with the right one displaying many traces of deformations, probably due to fractures and injuries.
