There are waterfowl such as egrets, kingfishers and herons, and water voles are increasing in numbers. 23. The wildlife includes some rare species such as Water vole , Dingy Skipper butterfly, and Ringed plover. 25. The trust carried out the first and second national water vole surveys in 1989-1990 and 1996-98. 26. This provides a valuable habitat for creatures ranging from moths to small amphibians and water voles . 27. The reserve forms part of the Berkeley Vale Water Vole Recovery Project s habitat enhancement scheme. 28. Water voles dig subterranean burrows that are connected to water sources, and are considered a semi-aquatic species.29. The area is home to numerous endangered species including great crested newts, water voles and brown hares. 30. In winter ducks such as mallard, teal, wigeon, water voles are amongst the mammals in the reserve.
