31. The boiler was thrown over the level crossing and ended up on the down platform . 32. Another ladies'waiting room was located on the down platform . 33. The stationmaster's cottage lies on the disused down platform , now privately owned and well maintained. 34. A Metropolitan Railway signal box used to stand at the south end of the down platform . 35. The down platform is reached across a road overbridge and down another long flight of stairs. 36. A timber building was provided on the down platform in 1878 to replace four temporary structures. 37. On 4 February 1973 the branch was singled and the down platform taken out of use. 38. The platforms were later reconstructed in concrete and the down platform had a basic metal shelter. 39. A SER-designed signal box at the western end of the down platform was built around 1892. 40. Since then access to the down platform has been via a footbridge from the up platform.
