31. The accumulated leachate is periodically removed, or used in summer to suppress dust on the landfill. 32. The leachate is subjected to one of several sequences of precipitation, solvent extraction, and ion exchange. 33. Water-borne bacteria digest organic material in leachate , but use up much of the available oxygen. 34. The aerobic environment decomposition is accelerated and amount of VOCs, toxicity of leachate and methane are minimised. 35. Thus, less time and energy is required to process the leachate , making the process more efficient. 36. A number of technologies, including clay and plastic liners were used to contain the smell and leachate . 37. The solution ( leachate ) was then removed from the ore and the valuable metals extracted using activated carbon. 38. This landfill, and others along the Raritan River, provide an ample supply of leachate to the waterways. 39. The pipes also serve as drains within the drainage layer to minimize the mounding of leachate in the layer. 40. All three mechanisms involve the reintroduction of collected leachate supplemented with water to maintain moisture levels in the landfill.
