31. In 2001 excavation began on a Gaul and later Roman Oppidum found in a field atop the puy. 32. However, no hard evidence has been discovered actually linking this oppidum with " Riusiava ". 33. After this, Wheeler decided to excavate the oppidum at Camp d'Artus, near Huelgoat, Finist�re. 34. They were initially stationed at Oppidum Ubiorum ( Cologne ) in the jurisdiction that was to become Germania Inferior. 35. The bridge is 20 m above sea level, and the highest point of the oppidum is 58 m. 36. The town itself was first mentioned in 1293, and was first called an " oppidum " in 1323. 37. The oppidum was surrounded by ramparts which encircled the settlement of opposite sides of a ravine called the Heidetrankthal. 38. The old Helvetii oppidum at the Engehalbinsel became a Roman vicus, which was probably known as Brenodor or Brenodurum. 39. Alesia was an oppidum ( fortified settlement ) on a lofty hill, with two rivers on two different sides. 40. The higher settlement was based on a pre-Roman oppidum which was within a surrounding wall including 21 towers.
