31. In these two townlands lies Ballynahone Bog, one of the largest lowland raised bogs in Northern Ireland. 32. Large parts of the Teufelsmoor area consist of raised bog peat which is formed from sphagnum moss. 33. Thus the raised bog rises very slowly above the level of the groundwater level, hence its name. 34. The problem is particularly acute for raised bogs as they yield a higher-grade fuel than blanket bogs. 35. It contains several raised bogs or domes, separated from each other by extensive areas of streamside meadows. 36. The river rises on Paddaburn Moor in Kielder Forest and skirts the eastern edge of raised bog . 37. South of the mountain is an area of raised bog which forms the source region of the Zwittebach. 38. This Wetland is a raised bog . 39. The ring ouzel prefers semi-open stone runs and lightly wooded transition zones between treeless raised bogs and forests. 40. This makes the region very different from the Atlantic and sub-Atlantic raised bogs of western and central Lower Saxony.
