31. Dr . Green and her Sabbath school teacher wrote letters of recommendation to the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. 32. In June 1852 the Sabbath School commenced operation under J . R . Rundle, and within a year had 80 pupils. 33. He sat as one of the first trustees of Maitland's First Presbyterian Church and taught in the " Sabbath School ". 34. Soon thereafter, he was elected Superintendent of the Sabbath School , and then elected secretary of the church and Board of Trustees. 35. The church began the first " Sabbath School " in the 1700s for the local Tunxis Indians, to teach them Christianity. 36. There, he started teaching at the government-funded Sabbath School on Cicero Street, teaching the local Indians while he himself also learned Hindi. 37. This building was painted a light yellow with green facings, and had a large room upstairs for Sabbath Schools , and band rehearsals. 38. For most of his adult career he taught a Sabbath School class which had a profound impact on many of those attending. 39. As a result of this clause, Lily Ann turned around and opened a Sabbath school in addition to her late night school. 40. Today, a stone monument reading Drummond s Union Sabbath School , 1815-1913 stands on the site of the former church and school.
