31. The tower, adjacent to the church, is a three-storeyed string coursing defining the floor levels. 32. These levers raise or lower the pitch of the string course by a microtone, less than a half step. 33. The new upper storey was built in ashlar stone separated from the old rubble walling by a moulded string course . 34. The facade is finished with a dentilled string course which is the base of a Corinthian entablature with Italianate balustrading. 35. The facades are asymmetrical, and are divided by pilasters and by a horizontal moulded string course between the levels. 36. A continuous moulded string course also extends across the length of the mining exchange building facade and the adjacent premises. 37. The west tower was built in three stages, each stage marked by a horizontal string course running round the outside. 38. Above each arch is plain wall surmounted by a blind arcade, string course at the roof line and plain parapet. 39. Full-size drawings were then prepared of architectural elements, such as windows, string course , profiles and friezes. 40. The 14th-century nave is flanked on each side by moulded string course below a battlemented parapet with corner gargoyles.
