31. On December 25 the " Tonquin " safely traversed around Cape Horn and sailed north into the Pacific Ocean. 32. The firm sold the Tonquin to John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company for $ 37, 000 in 1810. 33. Once there, the men waited to sail on aboard the " Tonquin ", which departed in September. 34. The fort constructed by the Tonquin party established Astoria as a U . S ., rather than a British, settlement. 35. After the royal audience the " Tonquin " departed for the Columbia River, arriving there on 22 March 1811. 36. Naukane was given the name John Coxe while on the " Tonquin " and later joined the North West Company. 37.
