41. The dam site is located in the West Pench National Park Range, surrounded by forested hills. 42. The dam site is located 3 km upstream of the ruins of the old Ma'rib dam. 43. The dam site houses two power stations, one built in 1976 and another built in 1995. 44. The Portuguese side of the river around the dam site lies within the International Douro Natural Park. 45. Preliminary investigations for development at Ambuklao and Binga Dam sites were undertaken as early as January 1948. 46. The canyon affords many excellent dam sites . 47. The dam site contains archaeological remains which, under Israeli law, must be excavated before construction can begin. 48. Horses and mules were used to transport stone from the quarry to the dam site using carts. 49. Beavers use their forepaws to move mud and small stones from the stream bottom to the dam site . 50. Initial surveys of the Friant Dam site were carried out in November 1935 and continued through early 1936.
