41. Intraperitoneal regions of the digestive tract ( aka those parts suspended by peritoneum ) are covered with serosa. 42. Retroperitoneal organs in general do not have a complete covering of peritoneum , so they are fixed in location. 43. Typically, point ( skin ) pain is not present until the parietal peritoneum is inflamed, as well. 44. There are other theories regarding side stitches than simple stretching of the thoracic spine, irritation of the parietal peritoneum 45. Examples are the pleura of the lungs, pericardium of the heart, and the peritoneum of the abdomen. 46. The visceral peritoneum covers the internal organs and makes up most of the outer layer of the intestinal tract. 47. Predominantly extra-articular manifestations like high fevers, rheumatic rash, inflammation of the peritoneum are also seen. 48. Any infection can spread further to the lining of the abdomen ( peritoneum ) and cause potentially fatal peritonitis. 49. Once there, estrogen, immunological factors and other substances in the peritoneum can stimulate growth of the misplaced tissue. 50. Should the inflammation become severe, it may actually irritate the inner lining of the abdominal cavity called the peritoneum .
