41. In the area of the pass summit there are mainly fens with some smaller transitional mires and raised bogs . 42. With almost 7 sqmi ( 18km 2 ) the raised bog in good order is the largest in Central Europe. 43. This reserve is a remnant of a large area of raised bog and is maintained by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. 44. The eastern part of Flanders Moss is the largest raised bog in Europe to remain in a predominantly near-natural state. 45. The interior of the raised bog is severely damaged, especially as a result of the many years of peat cutting. 46. The remaining area includes considerable stretches of raised bog and the Slieve Bloom mountains, which are partially covered by coniferous forest. 47. The parish also includes the lowland raised bog of Wybunbury Moss, a national nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. 48. Near the coast it occurs in brackish water and inland in fens and raised bogs or aggradation zones of standing waters. 49. The intact dome has a typical raised bog flora and in the centre it retains quaking areas and numerous bog pools. 50. The park area is a typical ombrotrophic raised bog a thick turf layer with its middle part raising above its edges.
