After the war Wyton became home to the Strategic Reconnaissance Force, adding English Electric Canberra to the aircraft flown. 43. From 10 October 1951 to 15 May 1952, the 44th trained all elements of the 68th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. 44. Eielson became the primary site for strategic reconnaissance around 1949, when the 375th Reconnaissance Squadron was transferred from Ladd. 45. The wing was fully integrated with the 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing from 12 November 1949 to 10 February 1951. 46. The squadron was redesignated the 322d Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron and activated at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana in 1950. 47. The commando element was mostly used to conduct direct action tasks, with the SASR returning to conducting strategic reconnaissance . 48. The 5th Tactical Hospital and the 4167th USAF Hospital were activated and both assigned to the 5th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. 49. The equipment and active duty personnel remained at Fairchild and were gained by the newly formed 99th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. 50. With the change in aircraft also came a modified mission : global strategic reconnaissance with bombardment as a secondary tasking.
