41. After the war, Johns remained in the Royal Air Force, apparently with the substantive rank of Pilot Officer. 42. His substantive rank was advanced to full colonel in December 1946 and again to major-general in January 1948. 43. South East Asia Command was disbanded in May 1946 and Mountbatten returned home with the substantive rank of rear-admiral. 44. Cockburn was promoted to the substantive rank of battle of Cape St Vincent in February 1797 during the French Revolutionary Wars. 45.
