1. Most houses originally had covered-porch entrances and batten doors . 2. The double semicircular header bond arched opening holds two ledged batten doors that open out. 3. The heavy board-and-batten doors between the three rooms and their hardware are original. 4. In the northeastern corner is an old board-and-batten door that once provided egress. 5. The old-fashioned " batten door , " strongly barricaded, resisted their efforts to demolish it. 6. On the south is a bulkhead entrance to the cellar with unpainted board-and-batten doors . 7. The gabled roof is supported by poles, and a board-and a board and batten door allows access. 8. The cabin has two board and batten doors and two windows, and a chimney constructed of rubble and red clay. 9. The new batten doors were hand planed pine and the cast-iron hardware, hinges and latches were made by Eli Whitney Blake. 10. The smokehouse, constructed around 1850, is built of hewn logs and is accessed by a board and batten door with iron hinges.
