1. When treated with powdered elemental silver the iodoform is reduced, producing acetylene. 2. In the past, the gauze was treated with iodoform as an antiseptic. 3. Some reagents ( e . g . hydrogen iodide ) convert iodoform to diiodomethane. 4. Upon heating iodoform decomposes to produce diatomic iodine, hydrogen iodide gas, and carbon. 5. The simplest of this series, the halomethanes, contain compounds such as dichloromethane and iodoform . 6. Saffron's taste and iodoform or hay-like fragrance result from the chemicals picrocrocin and safranal. 7. Also conversion to carbon dioxide is possible : Iodoform reacts with aqueous silver nitrate to produce carbon monoxide. 8. This substance was to become known as " BIPP ", an acronym for bismuth iodoform parafin paste. 9. Methyl iodide may also be prepared by treating iodoform with potassium hydroxide and dimethyl sulfate under 95 % ethanol. 10. Following a long series of painful iodoform treatments given by her doctor Eduard Bloch, Klara died at home in Linz on 21 December 1907.
