1. Worldwide, multiple cropping provided up to 20 % of all food in 1986. 2. These were mono-cropped coconut, of coconut-pasture / livestock multi-storey system, and of multiple cropping . 3. Despite increases in acreage and introduction of multiple cropping , productivity is on the decline. 4. On the other hand, rice-based cropping systems followed an irrigated mono-cropping system and multiple cropping systems. 5. Multiple cropping is found in many agricultural traditions.6. Short-duration pigeon peas ( 3 4 months ) suitable for multiple cropping have recently been developed. 7. Multiple cropping describes essentially the same general method.8. In the cultivation of rice, multiple cropping requires effective irrigation, especially in areas with a dry season. 9. In the present scenario, the nematode problems are increasing due to adoption of multiple cropping and intensive cultivation. 10. When multiple cropping is implemented on small farms, these systems can maximize benefits of crop rotation on available land resources.
