1. Getting there requires a fairly steep hike from the Rim Drive trailhead. 2. The West Rim Drive will be closed to private cars year-round. 3. The West Rim Drive has been closed to private vehicles during the summer since 1974. 4. Beyond Cleetwood Cove, on East Rim Drive there are a series of seven turnout-parking vista points. 5. Pieces as large as were found on Crater Rim Drive while blocks hit the crater overlook area. 6. West Rim Drive was completed in 1912. 7. The West Rim Drive and Yaki Point already are closed to private vehicles from March through October. 8. Rustic stone guardrails were constructed along curves, at drainages, and at most of the Rim Drive viewpoints. 9. The final two miles ( 3 km ) of Rim Drive passes by the Castle Crest Wildflower Garden. 10. In any event, the East Rim Drive between Desert View and Tusayan will remain open to all traffic.
