1. Primary spermatocytes are diploid ( 2N ) cells containing 46 chromosomes. 2. Spermatocytes develop from the transformation of choanocytes and oocytes arise from archeocytes.3. Secondary spermatocytes are haploid ( N ) cells that contain 23 chromosomes. 4. Each secondary spermatocyte will form two spermatids after Meiosis II. 5. After Meiosis I, two secondary spermatocytes are formed. 6. MSP is exclusively synthesized in spermatocytes of the nematodes. 7. Alternatively they go on to differentiate into spermatocytes , spermatids and finally spermatozoa. 8. Here the spermatocytes pass through the basal membrane via the sertoli cell barrier. 9. The tail or " flagellum " executes the lashing movements that propel the spermatocyte . 10. There are two types of spermatocytes , primary and secondary spermatocytes ( Figure 1 ).
