1. The metallurgical report concluded that the cause was high ph stress corrosion cracking. 2. It is highly corrosion resistant, except to stress corrosion cracking. 3. Especially the selection of unsuitable stainless steels can cause problems with stress corrosion cracking. 4. Overaging ( aging beyond the peak strength condition ) improves resistance to stress corrosion cracking. 5. This makes the surface more prone to stress corrosion . 6. Analysis of the joint showed traces of chlorine, indicating a stress corrosion cracking failure mode. 7. Non-stainless varieties of maraging steel are moderately corrosion-resistant, and resist stress corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement. 8. Surface compressive stresses confer resistance to metal fatigue and to some forms of stress corrosion . 9. The heads would pop off from stress corrosion , allowing seawater to leak into the bilges. 10. Alloy X7080-T7, with higher resistance to stress corrosion than 7079-T6, is being developed for thick parts.
