1. The total diameter of an umbilical hernia is usually 10 centimeters. 2. Congenital umbilical hernia is a congenital malformation of the navel ( umbilicus ). 3. An umbilical hernia can be fixed in two different ways. 4. Most umbilical hernias in infants and children close spontaneously and rarely have complications of gastrointestinal content incarcerations. 5. A case report of strangulated umbilical hernia with Meckel's diverticulum has also been published in the literature. 6. The hernias of the anterior abdominal wall include : epigastric hernias, umbilical hernias , spigelian hernias and incisional hernias. 7. In general, newborns with umbilical hernias do not require treatment because often these hernias spontaneously close by age four. 8. The navel ( specifically abdominal wall ) would be considered an umbilical hernia if the protrusion was 5 centimeters or more. 9. The latex has been used topically to treat calluses, ear ache, insect stings, ringworm, skin cancer, toothache, umbilical hernias , and warts. 10. An " umbilical hernia " is also a defect in which abdominal contents come through weak abdominal wall muscle at the umbilicus.
