1. Sigmoid volvulus is particularly common in elderly persons and constipated patients. 2. This etiology comprises approximately 29 % of cases of gastric volvulus . 3. An attack of gastric dilatation volvulus almost kills him, but he recovers. 4. PEGs may also be inserted to decompress the stomach in cases of gastric volvulus . 5. The nonoperative mortality rate for gastric volvulus is reportedly as high as 80 %. 6. In sigmoid, volvulus rotation is always anticlockwise. 7. Type 1 gastric volvulus is more common in adults but has been reported in children. 8. Upper gastrointestinal ( GI ) endoscopy may be helpful in the diagnosis of gastric volvulus . 9. Localized ahaustral distended colon can be seen on abdominal x-ray during obstruction or volvulus . 10. Volvulus is a rare but life-threatening cause of bowel infarction which requires immediate medical attention.
