1. These studies showed that the mesocolon is continuous from the ileocaecal to the rectosigmoid level. 2. Focal adhesions frequently tether the greater omentum to the cephalad aspect of the transverse mesocolon . 3. Dissection through this allows access to the cephalad ( top ) surface of the transverse mesocolon . 4. It is found between the two mesothelial layers that separate the mesocolon from the underlying retroperitoneum. 5. The parts of the mesocolon take their names from the part of the colon to which they attach. 6. The mesocolon regions were traditionally taught to be separate sections with separate insertions into the posterior abdominal wall. 7. The "'mesoappendix "'is the portion of the mesocolon connecting the ileum to the appendix. 8. Similarly, focal adhesions occur between the undersurface of the greater omentum and the cephalad aspect of the transverse mesocolon . 9. Descriptions of the mesocolon by Toldt, Congdon, and Dodds have largely been ignored in mainstream literature until recently. 10. In 2012, the first detailed observational and histological studies of the mesocolon were undertaken and this revealed several new findings.
