1. The first successful pneumonectomy for lung cancer was performed in 1933. 2. Rarely, removal of a whole lung ( pneumonectomy ) is performed. 3. Nissen elected to perform left pneumonectomy , or removal of the lung. 4. For several months after the final pneumonectomy , Choummanivong's health improved. 5. Extrapleural pneumonectomy is a more extensive operation that involves resection of the diaphragm, and ipsilateral pericardium. 7.
