1. As in the sympathetic nervous system, preganglionic or presynaptic neuron. 2. A preganglionic fibre may synapse to 15-20 postganglionic fibres. 3. It also supplies preganglionic parasympathetic fibers to several head and neck ganglia. 4. Preganglionic parasympathetic fibres exit the geniculate ganglion as the greater petrosal nerve.5. They contain both preganglionic parasympathetic fibers as well as visceral afferent fibers. 6. Preganglionic parasympathetic fibres arise in the superior salivary nucleus of the pontine tegmentum.7. These parasympathetic preganglionic fibers come from the facial nerve ( CN VII ). 8. Postganglionic cell refers to parasympathetic neurons which receive information from the preganglionic fibers. 9. The preganglionic parasympathetic fibres originate in the inferior salivatory nucleus of the glossopharyngeal nerve. 10. Now the preganglionic fiber is restimulated again.
