1. Glucose 6-phosphate binds to GPI in its pyranose form. 2. Both of the sugars are glucose, which is a pyranose sugar. 3. The nonplanar pyranose rings can assume either chair ( in 2 variants ) or boat conformation. 4. The pyranose form of D-glucose and its derivative D-glucuronic acid prefer the chair 4 C 1. 5. This effect was originally observed in pyranose rings by J . T . Edward in 1955 when studying carbohydrate chemistry. 6. Reaction 2 uses pyranose oxidase to oxidize the second hydroxyl of 1, 5-AG, generating hydrogen peroxide. 7. D-ribose in itself is a hemiacetal and in equilibrium with the pyranose "'3 " '. 8. With hexoses, short reactions times usually lead to furanose ring forms, and longer reaction times lead to pyranose forms. 9. Casuarictin is transformed into pedunculagin via loss of a gallate group, and further into castalagin via glucose pyranose ring opening. 10. In aqueous solution ribose is 75 % pyranose and 25 % furanose and a different acetal "'4 "'is formed.
