1. The glycosylation of ouabagenin to add the rhamnose moiety produced ouabain. 2. This enzyme hydrolyzes the glycoside quercitrin to release quercetin and L-rhamnose . 3. Rhamnose occurs in nature in its D-form.4. Rhamnose is also produced by microalgae belonging to class Bacillariophyceae ( diatoms ).5. Rhamnose is commonly bound to other sugars in nature.6. Quercetin forms the glycosides quercitrin and rutin together with rhamnose and rutinose, respectively. 7. Additionally, the mammalian metabolism of rhamnose , the sugar component of ouabain, is unusual. 8. They ferment D-glucose and also ferment D-mannitol, L-rhamnose and cellobiose. 9. Chemically, gum karaya is an acid polysaccharide composed of the sugars galactose, rhamnose and galacturonic acid. 10. Exceptions are the methyl pentoses L-fucose and L-rhamnose and the pentose L-arabinose.
