31. The dorsal vagal complex ( DVC ) provides primary control of subdiaphragmatic visceral organs, such as the digestive tract. 32. It is known as Vaso-vagal Syncope, Neurocardiogenic Syncope or Neurally-mediated Reflex Syncope. 33. The stretching of the neck across the rim stimulates the vagal nerve in the brain that helps in swallowing and breathing. 34. There is also some vagal innervation of the atrial muscle, and to a much lesser extent, the ventricular muscle. 35. In the midline and directly superior to the obex is the vagal trigone and superior to that it the hypoglossal trigone. 36. It is likely that some peripheral exposure contributes to antiemetic effects, even if through vagal terminals in the clinical setting. 37. Fainting can be caused by excessive parasympathetic and vagal activity that slows the heart, and decreases perfusion of the brain. 38. Atropine may be used to prevent a reflex bradycardia from vagal stimulation during laryngoscopy, especially in young children and infants. 39. He swallowed an unchewed piece of pretzel that probably rubbed against the side of the esophagus, triggering a vagal reaction. 40. Other possible mechanisms include increased vagal activity and secretion of insulin and gastrin as well as improved parent-infant relationships.
