1. Tesserae exhibit the effects of eons of compression and tensional deformation. 2. Horst and graben structures indicate tensional forces and crustal stretching. 3. However, no unambiguous evidence for tensional faults occurs in the Bach quadrangle. 4. Lava flooding and thermal or tensional stress fractures are two causes of graben formation. 5. By convention the compressional quadrants are colour-filled and the tensional left white. 6. Fault-block mountains often result from rifting, another indicator of tensional tectonic forces. 7. A number of hotspot models have been suggested to explain tensional cracking origins, however. 8. Tensional activity has been dominant along the down-dip edge along the 1942 rupture zone.9. Weakening and cracking of oceanic crust and upper mantle is likely to occur in the tensional regime. 10. This is a misnomer as nothing is " pushing " horizontally and tensional features are dominant along ridges.
