1. In the north it occurs at Wynyard as the Wynyard Tillite . 2. Tho oldest tillite in the area is about 4 million years old. 3. The tillite may have started appearing in the Late Carboniferous. 4. In the west is the Zeehan Tillite . 5. The face of the peak exhibits large-scale slump structures in the Metschel Tillite zone. 6. The lowest levels are a discontinuous dark grey pebbly tillite up to several hundreds of meters thick. 7. There is a tillite bed near Port Askaig that provides evidence of an ice age in the Precambrian. 8. The angular, coarse-grained, poor-sorted glacial deposit, called tillite , was deposited. 9. Tillite deposits, dating from 2950 million years ago, are indicative of the first glaciation episodes on earth.10. The name is in association with Portal Rock and also reflects the location at the mouth of Tillite Glacier.
